The regulations require that all new licensees pass the NGWA Certification General Drilling Exam as well as any specialized drilling exams for the type of work they are engaged.  .

As of April 2007 the Office of the State Engineer has removed the requirement or passing a New Mexico Exam.

8 Continuing Education Units must be obtained every two years and submitted with the the license renewal. 6 hours shall be drilling related and 2 hours must be specific to regulatory requirements regarding well drilling in New Mexico.
